Date ID series coded to string value

Hi there,

I am currently trying to import a panel dataset into Eviews. However, when I specify the date ID series to the correct series it tells me that it is: "unable to determine the date format".

Some of my colleagues who use Stata tell me that the series has been incorrectly encoded to string values and are able to turn this into something they can use with Stata. Unfortunately, Eviews isn't able to read this type as a date ID series. I'm at a loss as to how to transform the series into a format I can use and I would greatly appreciate any help.

Kind regards,

Tuinsmurf

Without knowing the format of the dates, it is impossible to say.

You probably want to use the @dateval function.

About those commands; I can only use them once I've imported the data and when I tried it told me that "period" wasnt defined.

There doesn't appear to be any date in that Excel file.

Would there be anyway to introduce such a date?

That's a confusing question. Either your data is dated or it isn't. If it is dated, where are the dates? If it isn't dated, what are you trying to do with dates?

Hopefully the attached files will give you more perspective.

I am trying to look at the demand for wine and its determinants in Sweden, although I still haven't managed to import the data to Eviews yet :(

So isn't the column titled "date" the date column?

I tried it as date series, but even the descriptive statistics of the variables look odd. I have also been told that period is the correct Date ID by others working on the project.

I don't think there's any thing more we can do. Either the dates are dates or they're not. If you want to use "period" as the time period, that will work fine too, but just not as dates.

Do the dates just tell you the year, or is there something more going on? In other words, do the dates ever show different days within the same year?
