Dear all,

I am using Eviews version 9 and I am looking to import quarterly data (1980.1 to 2019.4) from an Excel.xlsm file (attached).

I used the following command:
import EViews_Input_.xlsm range=EVIEWS_RENTS!$C$3:$FG$183 byrow @freq q 1980q1

The import command seems to work when the excel file is open, but it does not work when it is closed.
In particular, when the excel file is closed, eviews imports only certain rows and values in Excel, Column C, are not imported correctly.

Can anyone please help me in sorting this out?

First thing to check is that you are up to date (help->EViews update).

I am not seeing a difference between the 2 methods.

Column 'C' however does look strange. If you resave the file but with macros disabled (ie xlsx not xlsm) and reimport it looks fine. Do you know how Column C was created?

It seems strange to me too I am experiencing these differences when the excel file is open vs. closed.

I could save the file, as you suggested, in xlsx form, but I am interested in sorting out how to import data from an xlsm file since I would need it in the near future for other analysis and it would be easier for me not to produce several different copy in xlsx.

Column C is a text column.
