Empirical study of a research report

Postby estrella bernabeu » Tue Mar 30, 2010 11:31 am

Hi everybody,
I'm new here in your forum and i want to take some advises to begin my empirical study of a research report about "Impact of the volatility of the exchange rate on the foreign trade, Tunisia as an exemple"

I have seen in a lot of recent researchs that we use often the method of Panel, wich is based on a number of Commercial partners of Tunisia (France, Italy, Belgium...).
From the equation model we can test the impact of the exchange rate volatility on the international trade, either positive, or negative.
I need your help to proceed in this work with Eviews 5.0, i have any idea from where to start such as there is a big work with the VAR, cointégration, stationary tests and lot ofother tests.

Ps: Excuse my poor english :(

I want to hear from you soon.
Thanks a lot

HI THERE
well u do not have to use Panel data analysis.....u can use either cross sectional or time series data analysis....anyway it is still early to decide what data analysis technique u should use. first u need to decide on the significant of ur work and formualte ur objective or research questions then u need to see what has been written in the field and move from there to methodology. so i guess u need to find what is it exactly that u want to study.
formulate ur research question which is the main objectiveof ur work. and this can be done by looking at the previous works.
i think if what u r going to study has been studied before then u will face a problem with ur contribution.
i hope i helped
all the best.

HI,

I have already finished my theoretical part and I plan to begin the empirical one soon.

I don't know which method to use, but I want to know it.
My first problem, it is the method of which I am going to introduce my data on Eviews.

In my equation i will explicate the trade (X) in the function of the GDP (GDP), the Exchange rate (ER) and the volatility (VOL)

So i want to know how to introduce the following data on Eviews in order to try to do some tests.

Please help me i'm in big problem.

u have a choice either to do panel data but only if u know how to explain the results or time series analysis. if u chose time series analysis then u will estimate 5 models for 5 different countries. i would chose time series analysis because it will show u the effect in each country rather than the variable overall effect.
it is ur choice.

Ok get it

My report is about the effect in Tunisia only, i'm not going to test the effect on each coutry.

I have a borad of the export flow in Tunisia, the GDP, the ER and the Vol but i dont know how to introduce them on Eviews.
The idea of my work is clear in my mind, so i want to process firstly by introducing data, and i have a week now without doing any progress.

I hope you get my problem :)

u can refer to the eviews manual it shows u how to import the variables.
first u need to create a workfile and specify the number of observations u r using. once u r done with the specifications then click ok and the work file will open......then u can go to proc and import and if ur data is in the excel then use the last option (i.e. read excel- lotus so on) then choose the file u need to import from....then enter the symbols of the name of the variable u need to import based on the same sequence in the excel file and click ok.
this should transfer the data into ur workfile in the eviews
u can see each variable infront of u by now.
all the best
