We’re not asking for the workfile, we’re just asking you to tell exactly what you are doing. In words.
Hi. Thanks for your feedback. You do not understand me because I can not save the work file and post here (this lite version do not allow me) so that it is easier for you to understand. I will stop asking this question. Thanks

Re: Error "Variable is not defined" in panel ARDL
Hi, I was regressing a set of data in my model in Eviews applying OLS.
My model is: GDP = β1 + β2 FDI + β3 ODA + u
Yet, when I input the above model in Eviews, there was an error message: "GDP is not defined."
Do you know how to fix the above error so that I can run my model in Eviews for results?
Thank you.

Re: Error "Variable is not defined" in panel ARDL
Is there a variable named GDP in your workfile? Can you show us exactly what command you entered?
Re: Error "Variable is not defined" in panel ARDL
Yes, I input GDP as a variable in my work file.
The command I used was stated above.
Yet I encountered the above error.
Then I don't know how to fix it.
Please advise.

Re: Error "Variable is not defined" in panel ARDL
try
Code: Select all
ls GDP C FDI ODA Re: Error "Variable is not defined" in panel ARDL
I input the above command.
There was an error message: "LS is not defined."
What should I do if Eviews keeps showing errors?
Thank you.

In particular, where did you enter the command? Maybe even post a screen shot of your EViews window including the command and the workfile window.
Re: Error "Variable is not defined" in panel ARDL
I input the above commands in Eviews.
Below are the screenshots.
It keeps showing the message that the variables are not defined.
How to fix these errors?

Re: Error "Variable is not defined" in panel ARDL
Two things:
I believe your data isn't organized correctly. In your Excel file you probably want one column for GDP, another for FDI, etc.
Then in the estimation window just type in the list of variables, no coefficients. Include C to get an intercept.
Consider taking a look at the free EViews Illustrated.

Re: Error "Variable is not defined" in panel ARDL
I tried to input another command with another excel file
Below are the screenshots of the command
Yet I saw the same error message that the variable is not defined
What does this error message mean?
I looked at some tutorials yet they did not mention this case.
I am using a Demo version of Eviews. Is it because it is a Demo version so the above error appeared?
Thanks.

Re: Error "Variable is not defined" in panel ARDL
Your Excel spreadsheet should have one column for each variable. The first row should be the variable name and the entries below that should be the data. Look at Chapter 2 of EViews Illustrated. Or it might be just as easy to enter the data directly in EViews.
Please don't post photos of your screen. They are too hard to read. Post a screenshot taken on the computer.

Re: Error "Variable is not defined" in panel ARDL
I applied another Excel spreadsheet and input a new command on Eviews with only the variables and the constant.
Yet there was an error message:
"Alpha series in specification - GDP
@EXPAND can convert to catagorical dummies."
What does the above error mean and how to fix it?
Below are the screenshots. Thanks.

Re: Error "Variable is not defined" in panel ARDL
The gdp data contains characters, not numbers
Re: Error "Variable is not defined" in panel ARDL
Do you mean the data can contain only characters but not the figures?
Attached are the data that I applied in this Eviews command.
There appeared the error message like above. Pls advise. Thks.
