It means EViews thinks you typed the command incorrectly.

but I have typed many different times, and it does not look like iam typing wrongly.

Apparently it looks wrong to EViews...
You might copy and paste the line you are typing here, and perhaps even post your workfile. No one can guess what you've typed.

I want to transform my AD series into Log AD and thats whta I have typed into generete series:
lad=log(ad)-log(ad(-1))
I get this message: String argument passed to numeric log function.
I have attached my excel file.
