Expanding string list from wildcard

Hi,

Suppose that there is a dialogbox in which a user types in names of variables (series) which he wants to change, and we want to use asterisk to do it, e.g. a user can type in: sales_* . I know there is a way of expanding this list by creating a group and using @members attribute, but is there any other way? I would like to check if declared series really exist in the workfile, because creating a group will end up with error if there is no such a series. Alternatively, is there a way of preventing an error when creating a group with a list of series one of which does not exist?
