Daily stock index returns

I have over 10 years of daily price data from a stock market index.

1. After I import the daily prices in an excel document, how do I convert these to daily returns? Or do I need to import the returns data from excel instead?

2. Also, how do I convert this daily data to find the monthly/annualised returns?
