Renaming Objects in Database

Postby vytama » Thu Aug 08, 2013 5:43 am

Hello, I have renamed some objects (mnemonic series) in Moody's database. Database added those new names to it's library/memory. I would like to go back to the original Moody's name. How can I do that? I tried deleting and starting over - database still remembers the renamed series.

In the Moodys database window in EViews, select view->object aliases. From there, remove the entries.

If this doesnt fix it, you will need to elaborate on when exactly and how you originally renamed the objects. For example, was it during a fetch operation and the original Moodys mnemonic was invalid? Or did you select 'rename' from the right mouse button menu in the Moodys window?

It was through fetch command. Moody's mnemonic was valid. Any way to go back to original name?

How was the series originally renamed? If the moodys series name was valid and 'fetch' was used, the series name should have remained unchanged. I do not believe the fetch command supports renaming.

When you open the Moodys database within EViews (file->open->database), press the 'all' button. Is the new or old mnemonic listed? If it is the new mnemonic, press view->object aliases. Is the mnemonic in the displayed window?

If yes, remove the entry from the window and then select view->object display. You should now see the old mnemonic.

If not, It is also possible that series was manually renamed in the database via the 'rename' button in the tool bar or via right mouse button menu click. If this was the case, press the rename button and enter the old name.
