COM Automation client support

Postby donihue » Sun Jul 31, 2011 2:37 am

"Help" indicates that
EViews offers COM Automation client support for select external application servers. Support is currently provided for two applications: MATLAB and R.
.
Would it be possible to add Scilab (http://www.scilab.org) - which is a (free) alternative to Matlab - to that list? That would make it possible to estimate Bayesian VECMs using Eric Dubois' "Grocer" package (http://dubois.ensae.net/grocer.html), since BVECMs are not (currently) available in EViews.

I'm not sure they have COM support.

Hello Gareth,

I asked Scilab if they had COM support, and below is the answer I received from Allan Cornet, the "guru" of Scilab:
Hi,

There are many ways to interact with Scilab

You can call Scilab engine from C/C++, java, C#

See http://help.scilab.org/docs/5.3.2/en_US ... 0ebc7.html
http://help.scilab.org/docs/5.3.2/en_US/javasci.html

If you want to call scilab with COM :

See http://forge.scilab.org/index.php/p/com ... on-server/

Do not hesitate, if you have some questions

Allan

I hope that this helps!

Regards
Donihue

That COM server page is woefully low on information...

I am a co-founder of Equalis. Equalis is Scilab's worldwide support partner and the provider of industrial grade solutions built around Scilab. If anyone's interested in connecting via the COMS server, we distribute the binary as part of our subscription program. Our homepage: http://www.equalis.com . Support options: https://www.equalis.com/?Support_Options. If you have specific questions feel free to contact us at member.services@equalis.com.

We'd also be interested in partnering with the Eviews team to explore supporting a connection to Scilab similar to MATLAB and R.

Regards,
Carmine
