BEA Database

Postby AASA » Sun Oct 18, 2020 10:56 am

I am having trouble using the BEA database. I entered my code from the BEA then proceeded to select BEA data. When I select "filter" nothing happens.
See attached file.

After you click Browse on database window (before you click Filter) do you see a list of datasets like the attached screenshot?

1. Are you behind a proxy server? In that case make sure that EViews is configured correctly.

2. Please try this on a browser window :
https://apps.bea.gov/api/data/?UserID=BEAKEY&method=GETDATASETLIST&resultformat=json

Make sure to replace the BEAKEY with your Key. Do you should see a json response with the BEA datasets like :

{"BEAAPI":{"Request":{"RequestParam":[{"ParameterName":"METHOD","ParameterValue":"GETDATASETLIST"},{"ParameterName":"RESULTFORMAT","ParameterValue":"JSON"}]},"Results":{"Dataset":[{"DatasetName":"NIPA","DatasetDescription":"Standard NIPA tables"},{"DatasetName":"NIUnderlyingDetail","DatasetDescription":"Standard NI underlying detail tables"},{"DatasetName":"MNE","DatasetDescription":"Multinational Enterprises"},{"DatasetName":"FixedAssets","DatasetDescription":"Standard Fixed Assets tables"},..}

1. I don't know what a proxy server is.
2. What does the app code do? Does it change my Windows settings?

The attached file shows what I get when I key the code supplied for the BEAPPI, using my registration.
When I selected the "preview" tab and the the "submit" tab, the attached file posted and I no longer see the attached file on the previous unedited response.

It seems that you have an invalid UseriId.
To check the API Key open the BEA database from EViews. Select Views->Preferences...
Check the BEA API Key if it is correct. You can also request a new key by clicking the link (https://apps.bea.gov/API/signup/index.cfm) on the preferences window.

I got a new Userid and hand typed it into the EViews box and it now works. I had copied and pasted the previous Userid.

I now see the screen similar to what you posted. I will now just need to "play" with the filter and data screens to see what I can find.

Thanks
