Error "Variable is not defined" in panel ARDL

Postby nhunghatinh » Fri Jan 01, 2021 8:58 am

Hi everyone. I am a new member. Nice to join this forum. Could you please help me with my problem
I am running panel ARDL for a panel data set. My model: lco2 lfdi lgdp lgdp2 ltrade lurbanization

All variables are I (1). When I run ARDL model for this panel data set, it says "lco2 is not defined", and when I changed lgdp to become dependent variables, it also says "lgdp is not defined". In general, It has the same notification when another variable is chosen as the dependent variable. I have been stuck for a few days and feel frustrated. :(. I am using eviews 11 student version (the trial version provided by eviews).

Please take a look and help me if you can. Thank you so much

Do you have a variable with that name in your workfile?

Hi EViews Gareth. Thanks so much for your reply. I do types the name of variables correctly. I think the problem occurs with any variables chosen as dependent variable.

There are two things you might do that would be helpful.

(1) Post the build date of your copy of EViews. (Help/About EViews)
(2) Post your workfile, including the VAR object you are trying to estimate.

Thanks for replying. But I create the log variable in the eviews (as you can see in the post)

I see that it is in the picture, but I don't know how you created the variable. I also don't know how you created the other variables that are not in the Excel workfile.

Also, while it is very unlikely that you've hit a bug it is not impossible. It would help the EViews team if you told them the build date of your version.

Thanks so much for replying startz. I transform variable into log form, the original is not in log form. That is why you dont see the log variable in the spreadsheet. I can not send you the workfile as i am using Eviews 11 student lite version (which has many limitations), which does not allow to save my file. Would you mind transforming my data to log form and run ARDL in your eviews to see if you have similar errors? I am using macbook, which causes me difficult to install eviews without buying it. I attached a picture of the eviews version . Hope to hear from you

To follow on from Startz' question(s), it would be extremely helpful if you could outline exactly what you do to get from the Excel file you provided to the error message you see.

It is frustrating to people, who are only trying to help you, to have to keep asking you the same thing.

Hi. Thanks for your feedback. You do not understand me because I can not save the work file and post here (this lite version do not allow me) so that it is easier for you to understand. I will stop asking this question. Thanks
