importing data from Moody's Economy.com

Postby Roman » Thu Oct 08, 2015 2:40 pm

Hello,

I use the enterprise version of EViews 9 and have access to Moody's services. Is it possible to download Moody's data directly from their web servers using the database registry entry feature ?

Thanks for your answer.

EViews will natively only import data from their Moodys formatted database files. Support for their webservers is currently not available.

Some time ago, there was talk about possibly supporting their webservers. I would contact them and verify whether or not they have created an EViews database extension/plug in that will read from their servers.

Has there been any progress on implementing the ability to download series data from the Moody's DataBuffet API directly in EViews? https://api.economy.com/data/v1/swagger/ui/index ? There is substantial documentation https://github.com/moodysanalytics/databuffet-api-codesamples/blob/master/dataBuffet-api-userguide.md#retrieve-a-single-series and code examples https://github.com/moodysanalytics/databuffet-api-codesamples on how to do this in other languages, but it would be much more convenient to be able to do this directly in EViews. It looks like it would be very similar to the way BEA and BLS data can be downloaded using an API key in EViews. Perhaps you could reuse some of that code.

You would need to contact Moodys - building such a connection would be on their end.

Are you sure Moody's would need to do anything more? It seems that libcurl.dll is included as part of the statndard EViews 13 installation and that alone could be used with their existing API infrastructure to download series as they demonstrate here: https://github.com/moodysanalytics/databuffet-api-codesamples/blob/master/dataBuffet-api-userguide.md#figure-7a-request-using-hamc-signature.

Code: Select all

C:\Program Files\EViews 13>dir libcurl.dll
Volume in drive C is OSDisk
 Volume Serial Number is 7244-99AE

 Directory of C:\Program Files\EViews 13

02/10/2022  02:17 PM           481,280 libcurl.dll
               1 File(s)        481,280 bytes

We do not, in general, build connections to proprietary 3rd party databases.
