Zoom sessions

Hello modeler friends I hope you are all well. I do have trouble finding participants to free Zoom sessions on EViews. People interested can reach me at jlbrillet@yahoo.fr. This could represent one or two 2-hour sessions. The following subjects could be considered: management of model data, algorith...

Free modelling lessons on-line with Zoom

I am Jean Louis Brillet, the author of the book on structural modelling, available at: https://www.eviews.com/StructModel/structmodel.html Some of the modelers in EViews should have used it. The response has generally been favorable. Now, I just had an idea. I would be willing and available to produ...

Encounterd an improper argument

I have this message:

" Encountered an improper argument "

with a white cross in a red disk.

While saving a file.

But the program keeps working (and the file is saved).

EViews breaks down every two program runs

Hello,

For some time now I get the message "EViews has stopped working" almost every two runs of the same program....

It disappeared for a while but is on again.

Problem with graphs

When I program a graph in this way: graph _gr_{%3}2.line P{%3}_q p{%3}_cap p{%3}_k p{%3}_l p{%3}_ur _gr_{%3}2.setelem(1) lcolor(blue) lwidth(0.25) lpat(1) legend(Value added) symbol(1) .......................................... EViews crashes (EViews 10). If I drop the "symbol" part, using...

Re: Different expressions for same endogenous using scenarios

Another way of doing it is using a scalar parameter:

scalar p=1
model1.append x=(p=1)*f1+(p=2)*f2

Beware that you have to "update" the model after changing the value.

If you do not want to do this you should define the parameter as a series

generate p=1
model1.append x=(p=1)*f1+(p=2)*f2

Re: Dummy Variables

Hello from Paris, In my opinion, the easiest way of manipulating dummy variables is the following; Create a time trend using the date and adding a fraction to the previous value in case of quarterly data. For quarterly data over a 1980 - 2020 period: smpl 1980q1 1980q1 genr t=1980 smpl 1980q2 2020q4...

show gets you out of Eviews 9

Hello from Paris, I have a problem with EViews 9. When I try to SHOW (from the command window) a non-existent variable under EViews 9, the program stops working. Does anybody face this problem? Also, I am just finishing an addition to my book on modeling describing the changes due to EViews 9. There...

Re: Actuals instead of solved values

Hello from Paris, The Exclude command does it. However there is a big problem: the command actually drops the equation from the model (for the associated periods). If the equation is estimated, OK : the behavior is replaced by an exogenous decision. The model has one less variable and one less equat...

Re: Basic question on setting up EViews object

A late hello.... Eviews registers as endogenous the FIRST variable in the equation. So D, S and P should appear once, and once only, as the first element. This means this model will not work : D = f(P, x) S= f(P,y) S = D But you can : * Invert the fiirst equation to give P. * Permute one equation, g...
