Re: Graph by Actual Dates

Sorry for my late response. Oh I see what Startz is saying but I'm not sure exactly how to do that. I'll spend some time figuring it out. Hmm, ok I'll follow your instructions Glenn and I'll let you know if I was successful. Thanks for the response! Now let me give it a try....

Re: Graph by Actual Dates

Oh ok. No problem take your time. I did some searching around and the closest I came to that was the Seasonal Graph. It gives means for months across the years. y-axis= price, x-axis= months of the year. If only I could replace the x-axis with a precise date interval.... It's ok for now, but I would...

Re: Graph by Actual Dates

Hi Glenn, Ahh I see. It's fine, to err is human! Tried the code again and it works like a charm! Thanks so much. I really appreciate it. One other question though. OK, sometimes the hardest part of solving a problem is asking the right question. So I'll try my best here. My aim is to consider the in...

Re: Graph by Actual Dates

Feel free to ask away, it just might be that I'm overlooking something obvious! The range of the workfile is "5/02/2005 to 10/29/2010" (x 28 crossids). That's mm/dd/yyyy which is the default order EViews seemed to organize my data when I was first setting up my workfile. Hope it helps.

Re: Graph by Actual Dates

Hi Glenn, thanks for your response. I tried the code you gave and I got the same message about there not being enough observations. I changed around the month and day order and took out the "dd/mm/yyyy" and it said something about "insufficient arguments". I came across "ser...

Graph by Actual Dates

Good Day everyone, I have stacked data and I'm trying to do a graphical analysis of stock behavior surrounding a particular holiday. I would like to see what trend might exist within a time interval spanning one month before and one month after the holiday. I know how to call up different sample siz...

Re: Series Creation by Specified Day(s)/Month(s)/Year(s) etc

Hey Gareth, it worked! Thanks again so much! I was wondering though, i couldn't figure it out, what's the function to get statistics on the months of Jan-May AND Aug-Dec...given that i'll compare the statistics of those months to statistics of June and July (which should be "smpl if @month>=6 a...

Re: Series Creation by Specified Day(s)/Month(s)/Year(s) etc

Oh ok, wonderful...! Sorry for being unclear. You said I can set up the sample for the dates I want. What if I want a particular month? Say statistics for all months of January across all firms and years? The function are the same as you mentioned? Here's what I mean: (Assuming 1=mon, 2=tues, 3=wed,...

Re: Series Creation by Specified Day(s)/Month(s)/Year(s) etc

Hi Gareth, thanks for the reply. I'm a bit unclear as to the necessity of the sums. Will this sum my data given the crossid (@weekday etc) and variable(series name)? As an eg, are you saying "smpl if @day=1" interprets the data as if there were only mondays (assuming 1=monday) and thus wil...

Series Creation by Specified Day(s)/Month(s)/Year(s) etc

Hi Good Day everyone, I have a question concerning data grouping. If I have daily stacked data in a workfile ( 5 years of daily stock prices across 30 different companies), is there a way to create a series that will give a listing of daily stock prices for the months of March-December (across the 5...

Re: ANOVA/ Hypothesis Testing (Multiple Means)

Oooooooh I see. I tried it a for a sample of my companies and it worked fine! Hopefully it'll work for all 40 companies in one workfile. Thanks again Mr.Glenn! Much appreciated.

Re: ANOVA/ Hypothesis Testing (Multiple Means)

Hi Mr.Glenn, I've run through the steps you gave and I seem to have the biggest problem with carrying out the first step. I know how to simply create an alpha series ( I use the "alpha filename" command) but after experimenting and facing some errors I have to conclude that I'm not sure ho...

Re: ANOVA/ Hypothesis Testing (Multiple Means)

Hmm, I see. Alright, I will attempt what your have prescribed. You last sentence does seem in line with what I'm trying to achieve. Will let you know if it work or if I'm having trouble executing the said steps. Thanks so much for your advice Mr.Glenn.
