How do you assign a valmap to a series in a program?

Thanks.

(Maybe add a cross-reference in the "Assigning a valmap to a series" documentation.)

Is there something I should be using instead?

I rarely create valmaps. Usually EViews makes them for me when reading in a file from S**t*.
