Dated data table - Letter disappears when saving to pdf-document

Postby tvonbrasch » Fri Sep 16, 2016 12:37 am

Hi

When entering the rowlabel Utvinning av råolje og naturgass it comes out in capital letters in the dated data table as

As I noted in my previous post, the rowlabels are written in upper case letters. However, this is not the case for the Norwegian vowel "å". It is the lower case version "å" that is included and not the upper case version "Å".

When I save the table as a pdf document, the letter "å" disappears

Is this something you can fix?

The PDF engine used by EViews unfortunately does not have support for the Norwegian vowel "å". and therefore cannot be fixed.

Hi Jason

Okey, but maybe you can change it so that the Norwegian vowel is correctly shown as either "å" or "Å" in the Eviews table object, depending on whether upper case or lower case is used? (same for æ,Æ and ø,Ø.) Maybe you have the same problem with spesial letters in other languages as well?

This will be fixed in the next patch.

Perfect, thanks!

I have another question related to how to sidestep the issue that Norwegian vowels is not printed in the pdf output. As an alternative, I can save a table in picture format, but unfortunately, the quality of the picture format is low. For example, this is a pdf version:
pdf_version.PNG
pdf_version.PNG (64.78 KiB) Viewed 10838 times

In contrast, this is the bmp version
bmp_version.PNG
bmp_version.PNG (128.11 KiB) Viewed 10838 times

and this is the jpg version
jpg_version.PNG
jpg_version.PNG (325.2 KiB) Viewed 10838 times

Both pictures hold lower quality compared with the pdf version (but these show the Norwegian vowels correctly). Is there a way to increase the quality of the pictures when saving them from Eviews?

Do you think you will upgrade the pfd engine in the future, say when you release Eviews 10?

Thanks again for looking into this

I would try using a PDF printer driver such as http://www.cutepdf.com/(there is a free version) or Adobe Acrobat and then 'print' your tables instead of 'saving' them. These are generally bit more flexible than what save offers.

Hi

I have a table I would like to print to PDF using commands, see picture below. However, since the table contains Norwegian vowels, I cannot use the built-in EViews pdf maker. I have to use a PDF-printer.

There must be a way of using the SHELL command to save a table in eviews using the MICROSOFT PRINT TO PDF printer, but I do not know how to do it.

Can you please help me with a SHELL-command to print tables in EViews using the microsoft print to pdf?
(of the form SHELL ... TABLENAMEINEVIEWS ... DESTINATIONPATH...)

That would entirely depend upon whether your PDF writer has a command prompt interface.

Hi Gareth

Thanks for your response. The PDF writer I was referring to is the one that is built into Windows 10 (https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/win ... 345d6e25df). Given that EViews cannot handle printing Norwegian vowels to PDF (and this is something EViews should be able to do), it would be great if you could help me with some code to use the built-in Windows 10 PDF-writer to write a table from EViews to a pdf-document. If you prefer using another PDF writer than the one that is built into Windows as an example when making the EViews code, that is also fine.

Hope you or someone else in the EViews team can help me with this. It would make our life much easier if we could automate the printing of EViews tables into pdf-files.

I am not sure we can help with 3rd party pdf writers.
