data transformations - command line method

Postby cap » Fri Oct 17, 2008 12:01 pm

Hello,

I know that in a spreadsheet view of any series, you can click on the drop down menu in the toolbar and transform your data into such things as %Chg, %Chg A.R., Year %Chg, and so forth. My question is, instead of this point and click method, how could this be done on the command line?

Thanks in advance,

Since that transformation is display only, there is no command line method.

data transformations - filling missing values

Postby alb30 » Wed Oct 22, 2008 12:23 pm

Hello,

I am usually working with high frequent (daily, intra-day) time series data. Such time series experience inherently several missing values (holidays,...). Does there exist any options to fill the gaps in the time series? I have written a short program, which fills the gaps by linear interpolation.

Best regards,

Alex

After reading more of the Eviews 6 Users Guide, I believe I have found some command line methods that actually do perform some of those display transformations.

For the benefit of anyone else reading this after me, they are listed on page 736 - 737.

In particular, the function @pc(x) computes the 1 period percent change, @pca(x) computes annualized 1 period percent change, and @pcy(x) computes year over year percent change.

The don't change the display of the series, they create a new series, which is slightly different.

Yes, I probably should have been clearer in my original question ... at any rate, I am very glad the software has these functions, they will be very useful. Thanks.
