E-Views crashing from object copy and paste

Whenever I try to copy an object in a source file and then paste the object in a destination workfile, I receive a message that "EViews has stopped working," and that Windows is searching for a solution. Eventually EViews shuts down. Can you please let me know how to proceed? Thanks.

A helpful response will have to wait for the EViews guys to wake up. They are probably distracted by

(a) the US-England World Cup game, and
(b) figuring out which side they're on.

In the meantime, you might want to be sure you're running the latest updates and post which version number you're running so they can give a faster response.

If updating doesn't fix it, could you provide more information?

Is it all objects being copied from any workfile to any workfile, or is it specific objects in specific workfile? If it is specific, could you post the workfile?

I am using EViews 7.1, and it is fully updated. It is any object in any workfile being copied to any other workfile; it is not object or workfile specific. Thanks.

What method are you using to copy and paste? Are you using ctl+c, ctl+v or are you selecting Copy and Paste from the right mouse button menu?

How are you selecting the objects to copy? Are you dragging via the mouse or are you pressing shift while using the arrow keys?

What operating system are you using?

I always right-click. I have tried both using "Copy" and "Object Copy." I have also tried "dragging and dropping."

To select the items, I press ctrl or shift and then use the mousepad of my laptop to select the items.

If you havent already, try rebooting your machine.

Please also try creating 2 new simple workfiles, a new series in one, and then copy the series to the other workfile in an EViews program:

create dest_wf u 100

copy src_wf::test dest_wf::test


Please post what you find.

It helps in narrowing down where the problem is occurring.

A few other things to try. Try copying some objects in a workfile and then pasting into the command window. The list of object names should appear. Does this work properly? Secondly also try pasting the same information into another app such as MS Word. Did the object names appear then?

Please note, the crash occurred when pasting from one instance of EViews to another.

The update is not working for me either. I go through the process of the update and everything seems to be successful. However, when I then check again to see if an update is available, EViews continues to notify me that one is indeed available. I have done this 7 consecutive times with and without restarts.

That was our mistake on the dating of the patch. The latest version should be dated 25 June 2010. You can check which version you have by clicking on Help->About EViews. If it says that date, then you're fully up to date.

Note that the fix Jason was talking about will be in the next patch (i.e. it is not in the current one).
