Minus sign disappears to Excel

Postby pelleenglund » Thu Oct 24, 2019 7:14 am

Hello,

When simply copying (with Ctrl+ C and Ctrl+ V) a series from Eviews 11 (version Sep 17) to Excel the minus sign disappears if the value is greater than -1 but not otherwise. That is,

-0.8 becomes 0,8
-2 becomes -2 (as it should)

The Office version we are using is 365 ProPlus, and we're also using Swedish languange, i.e. we use (",") and not ("."). However, that has not been a problem earlier.

Do you know if something has happened here?

Best regards,
Per

Did this behavior just start happening after a patch or some other change in software? Or has this always occurred with EViews and Office 365?

Please also try pasting into the EView command window and as well as into Notepad. In both cases, do the negative signs remain or disappear?

It has always occurred with Office 365. But it works fine if you paste it into the command window and Notepad, then the minus signs remain.

Try this:

If the paste works ok (minus signs are left intact) with Notepad, try re-copying the text from Notepad into the clipboard, and then paste into Excel to see if minus signs are now ok. If so, then EViews is likely to blame. If it isn't, then Excel is likely to blame.

If you determine that EViews is to blame, please upload a small workfile with a series that causes this issue to this forum so we can try to recreate it.

No the minus signs aren't ok then either, so maybe it's Excel one should blame then.
I just wonder what could happened with the new Office version

I have now tried to change the decimal separator to "." in Excel and then it works fine. But previously it also worked with "," which is the standard we are using.
