Unknown Error 0x800A03EC

Postby adam_economist » Thu Sep 20, 2018 10:08 pm

Hi -

I am getting the below error when trying to write to and excel file.

Excel library error: 'Unknown error 0x800A03EC' in
"WFSAVE(TYPE = EXCEL, MODE = UPDATE)
NATIONAL COREDATA.XLS RANGE="EVIEWS!A1" BYROW @KEEP
TRNS_*".

Seems to open the file and write the date (as it says it is doing so in the status bar) but upon closing and saving the error appears. It's a little hard to know what it is as it is an unknown error.

Have you ever come across this before?

That looks like a COM error. WFSAVE would use COM to save to a spreadsheet only if it pre-existed and it is currently open & locked by Excel.

I would try closing the Excel document (in Excel) and try running the WFSAVE command again. It can get a little tricky when EViews tries to update a document that is currently being edited in Excel.

If you need more help, please make sure you can recreate the problem with the latest patched version of EViews, then let us know which version you are using, which bitness (32-bit or 64-bit), which version of Excel you are using (both version number and whether 32-bit or 64-bit). Also if you can provide the workfile and the excel spreadsheet and instructions on how to recreate the error, then we might be able to look into it for you.

Steve
