Add-in for excel 2007 causes excel 2010/2013 to crash

Postby wmdonovan » Wed Aug 26, 2015 5:28 pm

I am a faculty member intending to use eviews8 for students in a course this fall. Have personally used earlier versions of eviews.

The add-in if activated causes excel 2010/2013 to crash on exit. I have deactivated, and I have turned off registration of components so that it will not be registered. I will show students this step on installation, but are these steps necessary? Is this the only way to insure not to have the add-in invoked?

Thank you,

Michael Donovan

Could you provide the version and build date of EViews you have installed? (Available from Help->About EViews)

Unfortunately, debugging a crash caused by an add-in is very difficult -- since it usually is caused by interactions with other add-ins installed on your system. Do you have any other add-ins enabled in your Excel?

If you can send me a list of add-ins you have installed I might be able to recreate the issue on my system and try to work around it.

To disable our add-in, not installing it is the most effective, but if you already have it installed, you can also simply rename the "Excel2007Addin" subdirectory under the "EViews 8" program directory -- and also rename "EViews Add In.xla" (which is our older add-in) to something else to prevent Excel from finding it.

Thank you very much. Both replies are helpful!

Student version Eviews8 (my college does not have a license for me to obtain the full version for faculty). June 24, 2014 build

The have two add-ins. One is Frontline's Analytic Solver Platform (includes xlMiner Platform) http://www.solver.com/.

The other is a library of Erlang probability functions for waiting line analysis.

I will follow the steps described, Steve. This might not be a problem for students because it is a different class. They will not have frontline's add-in installed. I am sure of that.

Thank you!

Latest version of EViews 8 Student version patch is located here -- try installing it:
http://eviewsupdates.s3.amazonaws.com/E ... 062414.exe

I don't think I can get the Frontline add-in without buying it myself so I can't really test that. Do you have a link to download the erlang add-in?

Hi.

Sorry I have not responded. First 2 weeks of school have been busy. I disabled the add-in, and all seems well now. The frontline is an academic version for me and my students. The erlang add-in can be found here. http://www.abstractmicro.com/erlang/index.htm.

Many thanks for your help.

So, I installed the patch, but I am still told there is an update available. When I say yes to install, I get a message that a signature file cannot be confirmed. I will check again to see if I am properly registered.

Just try installing the patch manually. Download it from our website at http://www.eviews.com/download/download.html.
