Graph Object Update

Postby ChrisFM » Wed Mar 18, 2009 6:54 pm

I love the graph object -- but there are a number of areas where I'd like to suggest some improvements (beyond just the shading issues mentioned in another topic).

1. Have an option to have the Graph object either be "live" (and linked to data) or the ability to edit the series. I hate creating a graph, only to realize that I want to add just one more series to make it complete. I have to go back and redo the graph from scratch.

2. Allow "on the fly" changes to the sample range.

3. Drag & drop operations on a graph (drag a series to a graph, and it gets added automatically)

4. Pallette of formatting options (such as shading/lines/text boxes, etc -- like PowerPoint)

Any others?

Useful suggestions. Can you be more specific about (2).

I wish when reopenning a graph that the Options menu refers to the option used to create the graph in the first place, it seems some of the options go back to the first in the list or the default options instead of the one used!
Also, if the graph object contains the command (including the options) that created it!
I would suggest the same for regressions and models.
Or in gerneral, every procedure get mirrored in the command window like most software!

And are there any plans to implement it?

It is always on our list of things to look into.

Hi! I am currently using Eviews 7, and I was wondering if Eviews 8 made improvements in the handling of series in graph objects. In particular, can you create a graph, format it, and then go back and edit the original series (or change them).

For example, let's say we have:
graph @pcy(gdp) @pcy(consump) @pcy(investment)
for the growth of GDP, consumption, and investment.

Then, we format the graph, can I (in Eviews 8) do any of the following?
1. Delete @pcy(gdp) as the first series.
2. Change the series @pcy(consump) @pcy(investment) to any other function, such as: consump/gdp*100 investment/gdp*100
3. Add a new series: @pcy(exports)

Thanks! Chris

Unfortunately not, although you can always play the trick if making FRML objects, then graphing those. You can change the specification of the FRML at any time and the graph will update.

That's too bad; although it sounds like you should always graph frml objects then.

Can I ask when these features may get added?

Unfortunately, we don't have a time-table for implementation but it is high on our list.
