Adding ability to read Oxford Economics databases

Postby Danny_Bachman » Thu Sep 14, 2017 2:00 pm

Admittedly, a niche requirement. But those of us using Oxford would be very happy if we could grab data directly in Eviews programs from Oxford forecast banks for analysis and display.

That is a request you'd have to make to Oxford.

Ha! They said it was up to you :).

To be clear, I want to be able to write Eviews programs that can read local Oxford databanks. I would assume that means you would have to have code within Eviews that recognizes however Oxford organizes their databanks.

I have seen the methods in Oxford that dump data into Eviews workfiles. That direction works.

Oxford (or anyone else) would need to write an EViews database extension to allow EViews to read their data. We no longer write extensions for non-free data sources, but since it is an open language anyone can write their own.

Thanks very much Gareth. I will relay this to the Oxford team. Looks clear to me (then again, I don't have to do the actual programming).
