Re: How to enter data into a panel workfile.
Hi Gareth,
My data set is nearly similar to your second example where its columns represent dates but its rows represent cross-sections. I followed your instructions to unstack the data into a new page, but I got the error message which is "ID series do not uniquely identify workfile observations". I am using Eviews 7.2. Please find my data set attachment as below. Could you please help me for this case?
Thank you very much.

You have repeats (same company name twice).

Re: How to enter data into a panel workfile.
Hi Gareth,
I checked to exclude repeats. Also, I replaced company name by "a1" => "a853" to avoid repeats. But I still got the error message which is "ID series do not uniquely identify workfile observations".
I also discovered that in the step 2 (Stack in New page), my workfile has "var01" while it does not exist in your work file. You can find my workfile and my new set data in the attachment as below.
Please help me
Thank you very much

I followed the exact steps in that example, and it worked for me. Ensure your copy of EViews is up to date.

Re: How to enter data into a panel workfile.
Hi Gareth,
I am having trouble importing my excel file into Eviews (version 7).
I have panel data on a number of companies, from 2000-2012, but not all companies have data for each year.
I am wondering if it is still possible to import such a file into Eviews. Some companies have data from 2005-2012 for example.
I will attach my excel file so you can take a look.

Hi Gareth,
I see now that i had duplicate years for the same company and have fixed that in excel.
Everything seems to be fine now.

Hi,
I've stacked my data in excel but after importing the data into Eviews and strucuture it to dated panel, there is an error said " Indicies do not uniquely identify observations. 5 duplicate dates found..." I attached my excel. I've checked many times and cannot find out a solution.

Re: How to enter data into a panel workfile.
The error message is pretty accurate. You have duplicate entries for country C19.

Oh~Thanks a lot!!! I was wondering I only have 152 companies but there are 765 observations.
BTW, is there any particular requirement for my unbalanced panel? I just want to do the t-test.
Re: How to enter data into a panel workfile.
dear group,
I have the following panel data in excel (attached). How can I import into Eviews?
The data is not in typical panel format. There are 50 cross-section units, two variables for period 1998-2012.
can you show me the steps of importing it?

Re: How to enter data into a panel workfile.
Open that file in EViews and accept default options on the Excel read. That should give you a workfile with 50 observations, and 15 series for activos_ and 15 for loans_.
Next click on Proc->Reshape Current Page->Stack in New page.
Enter "activos_?" in the first box and hit OK.
This will create a new page with a activos_ series, a loans_ series, a banks series and a var01 series. Click on Proc->Structure/Resize current page. Change the type to Dated Panel. Enter "banks" as the cross-section id, enter "var01" as the date id. Hit ok.
Done.

Re: How to enter data into a panel workfile.
Hi,
I have cash flow data for 500 companies and the data is currently in the attached format. The companies are in rows, the yearly data of different heads of cash flow (cf)statements are in columns. As you see the data repeats for next year after 15 columns. I need the data to be formatted in the panel format as:
Year company cfheader1 cfhewader2 .......
Please help.
Thanks,
Satinder

Re: How to enter data into a panel workfile.
That file doesn't appear to contain panel data. You don't have multiple observations for each company (as far as I can tell).
