alpha truncation

alpha truncation

Hi,
I've a problem with a big database written in a .txt file (235000 observations);
the data are written in lines as follows for example :

"Denmark" "Copenhagen" "United Kingdom, UK" "Edinburgh" 12.57 55.72 -3.22 55.95 32 240 291 13773 21.48 "1525000" "421000" 48462825 27 30733287 24685300 21 5636724 3432 1 32 32 78 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 3432 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0

but when I import this file as a workfile in EViews5, I have the Error message : "Alpha series truncated to maximum length. Max length may be changed from the Option/Alpha Truncation menu".
And i get the following line of observation, with Copenhagen truncated to "Copenhag" :

Denmark Copenhag United Kingdom, UK Edinburgh 12.57 55.72 -3.22 55.95 32 240 291 13773 21.48 1525000 421000 48462825 27 30733287 24685300 21 5636724 3432 1 32 32 78 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 3432 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0

Thus I changed this option and have set the "max number of characters per observation" to 256 (the maximum allowed) .
Nevertheless the result is still the same, and I do not understand why the second column is truncated whereas the number of characters for this observation is under 256.
For example for this other line of observation :

Denmark Copenhag France Nice 12.57 55.72 7.27 43.7 21 240 704 13969 25.65 1525000 889000 48462825 27 30733287 23376213 30 8890612 5820 1 21 21 35 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 5820 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0

the number of characters in even smaller than for the previous observation, but the truncation remains the same.
