compare script version comparison

Postby bcchen » Thu Jan 16, 2020 12:27 pm

Hi Guys,

Is there a way I can compare the two programming files written and show how the program has been changed as a version control? Additional software needed?

Thanks,
BC

Hello,

I'm afraid EViews does not include that sort of program difference functionality, but there are plenty of third-party utilities specifically designed for that task. WinMerge is one such application that comes to mind, but there are many others. No doubt Google can point you in the right direction.

Thanks Matt.

Just wondering, with these software, will us be able to use the prg file directly or has to save as a text file to compare?

Appreciate that.

prg files are just basic text files - any text comparison tool will be able to handle them.

If snapshots is turned on, you can see a history of your program and do some basic comparisons between versions without using an external tool.

Snapshots are taken every few minutes (but only if a change is detected) and also on every save.

Snapshots were introduced in EViews 10.
