Can you explain what you mean by Extrapolation?

Without knowing which particular mathematical method you would like to use to estimate the values from 1960, it is hard to know whether EViews can do it or not.

That's a bit like asking how long is a piece of string. Linear extrapolation (i.e. just putting a straight line through the first two available points and extending that line back to 1960) is sort of built in.

In order to extrapolate, you need some sort of model and it needs to rely on RHS data available during the early period. One such model is

Code: Select all

ls y c @trend

Then use the forecast button and set the forecast smpl to be the early period. EViews will extrapolate backwards for you. Whether it's a good extrapolation depends on whether you've specified a good model.

We had the very same discussion before: viewtopic.php?f=18&t=3239

Trubador,
While it's a little off-topic, how do you make one of those viewtopic link things?

Hi Startz,

General approach is as follows:

Code: Select all

[url=Write the link here]And name it here[/url]

When you click on the subject of a specific message or a topic, its address appears on the browser. For instance, your message's link is "http://forums.eviews.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=3282#p11081"
Then you can either do the following:

Code: Select all

[url=http://forums.eviews.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=3282#p11081]viewtopic.php?f=4&t=3282#p11081[/url]
[url=http://forums.eviews.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=3282#p11081]Your last message[/url]

or simply copy and paste the link in the http format, which will produce the same thing as the former.

Code format is just for illustration purposes, since otherwise you would not be able to see the details. Hope it helps...

Thanks Trubador. I'll try to be better about using this.

Actually our forum software does the trimming on internal post urls itself. Thus if you copy a full post url from the address bar and paste it into a post you're writing, without using the url tags, it will trim it for you:

viewtopic.php?f=4&t=3282
