Reading an Excel file with no XLS extension

Postby abielr » Mon May 11, 2009 10:40 am

I need to read a number of Excel files that are produced by a different group within my organization. For historical reasons the filenames do not have any extension. However, if I use the read() command:

read(t=xls,...) "C:\test" ...

then Eviews will try to automatically try to find the file "test.xls" instead of just "test." But if I do not specify the t= option in read(), then the file is not interpreted correctly. Any suggestions? I could create a separate script in a language like Python to make copies of the files and rename them with an xls extension, but that is an extra step and something that can be slow when there is a large volume of files.

Thank you.

I think you're out of luck from an EViews perspective.
