Hello,
I want to include text within charts, for example, on a horizontal bar chart a data value (not necessarily the plotted one) to the left (if<0) or right (if>0) of the bar.
In order to calculate the position of the text I need to know the chart's axis range and I would like to know what is the formula that you use for determining the max/min and step size when the automatic option is selected. Would you be so kind to reveal it?
Thanks,
Javier

Re: Graph scale range formula
The algorithm is quite complicated, and cannot be summed up easily.

Re: Graph scale range formula
Is there a way then to know what is the range of a given chart?
Excel apparently uses this algorithm:

Re: Graph scale range formula
We offer a command to set the min/max, but not a routine to retrieve it.
Re: Graph scale range formula
Hi Pamela,
Is this feature (retrieving max/min values of chart) something you could include in future releases/patches?
Thanks,
Javier

Re: Graph scale range formula
Hi,
Is it possible yet to retrieve the minimum and maximum values of the range of a graph axis, when these are automatically chosen by Eviews?
Kind regards,
Niek

Re: Graph scale range formula
Unfortunately, no.
Re: Graph scale range formula
It is a pity that this functionality is not available. One of the possible uses is when you want to convert the dimensions [date,y-axis] of a chart to virtual pixels in order to assign text to a data point in a chart (say at the peak value of the NASDAQ add a text that says "peak") one can interpolate the x position via @pagesmpl but the y position is not possible unless the chart axis is set to minmax and this may not be what one wants.
It shouldn't be too difficult to assign to a graph object scalar attributes such as @minleftaxis, @maxleftaxis, etc.

We'll make a note of the suggestion. Thanks.
