I am trying to import instructional data (in Stata format) directly from the internet.
The two line program is:
wfcreate(wf=url_data, page=monthly) m 1978m2 1988m12
import http://fmwww.bc.edu/ec-p/data/wooldridge/barium.dta @freq M 1978M02 @smpl @all
Unfortunately I get
Syntax error : 'M' is not a valid @-keyword in "IMPORT HTTP://FMWWW.BC.EDU/EC-P/DATA/WOOLDRIDGE/BARIUM.DTA @FREQ M 1978M02 @SMPL @ALL" on line 2.
Manually creating the wf and then clicking on File-Import/Import from File... works (after pasting the url and the start date is the relevant dialog boxes).
The Capture window records the manual action as: import \\fmwww.bc.edu\DavWWWRoot\ec-p\data\wooldridge\barium.dta @freq M 1978M02 @smpl @all
