import panel data

Postby salhes » Tue Jan 01, 2019 2:43 am

Hi,

I am importing my data as panel but it generates error massage that there are repetitive vales in id series.

file-open-foreign data as Workfile and then I choose the file from my computer. at the last step, it generates error massage' repeated values found in source id series'.

I am not sure where the problem is in my data set which I have attached but I notice that the first column all the values are ( ???) in Eviews in the Excel read box which is not in my excel sheet

It's worse than you think:

You can drag and drop the Excel file onto EViews. It will come in fine as an unstructured file. You can then use Proc/Structure to make a panel dated by series.

Unfortunately, this generates "Internal Error 500 500."

Note that you have two observations for Bolivia for 1960 and 1961. Probably the source of the problem.

many thanks for your reply.

I found in the user guide

['There are two basic ways to create
a panel structured workfile. First,
you may create a new workfile
that has a simple balanced panel
structure. Simply select File/New/
Workfile... from the main EViews
menu to open the Workfile Create
dialog. Next, select Balanced
Panel from the Workfile structure type dropdown menu, and
fill out the dialog as desired. Here,
we create a balanced quarterly
panel (ranging from 1970Q1 to
2020Q4) with 200 cross-sections.
We also enter “Quarterly” in the
Page name edit field'

so it created crossid series, but how I enter my data afterward, by copy and past in crossid series?

another question please, why I cannot import my data as in my first post, what is wrong so it does not accept it as panel.

best
