Problems in accessing foreign databases

Postby mamo » Thu May 24, 2018 7:27 am

Dear Eviews team

I use Eviews 10, March 15 2018 build.

I face the following issues when trying to open foreign databases

Eurostat (or ECB) SDMX database: when clicking "Browse" or "Browse Append" an error window entitled "EdxSDMX" with the text "Error: AuthRequir" pops up.

Worldbank database: when clicking "Browse" or "Browse Append" an error window entitled "EdxWorldBank" with the text "Error: server returned unexpected content (server returned unexpected content)" pops up.

FRED database: after having opened and having pressed "Browse" or "Browse append", when trying to select one "All Series Search", "Calendar", "Categories", "Releases", "Sources", a window entitled "EdxFred " with the text "Error: server returned unexpected content" pops up.

Please note that I am behind a proxy server; pressing "Testing Internet Access" from the General Options item "Network proxy server" gives the message: "Connection to registration server succeeded". (Also, I do not have difficulties to install add-ons directly from the Internet.)

Kind regards,

mamo

Can you contact us by email (katerina.sadri@ihsmarkit.com) and we can try to identify why you are failing to access the databases.

Thank you
Katerina

Dear EViews team,

the issue has been resolved; I have been informed that I had to choose a different proxy server. Now, Eviews can access all the databases

I would have a suggestion for future editions of Eviews, though. The lists and text fields in the windows guiding the users through the selection of items from a certain database are rather narrow, cannot be adjusted and therefore do not show the full textstrings of relevant data descriptions since the metadata provided by db suppliers are usually quite long. Admittedly, one would usually not access items in a db by going through the various menues in this way. Nevertheless, I would suggest to provide adjustable or wider list and text fields in future editions of Eviews.

Best mamo

Please provide a screenshot of the dialog(s) you are talking about and we'll take a look.
