Connect a client to License Manager

G'day,

Have setup eviewslm on a server and licensed it with 5 concurrent licenses.

Now need to have clients connect to it for licenses.

How do I setup new clients to point to it?

How do I setup existing clients to point to it without re-installing?

Regards,
Andrew

For new clients, when installing the EViews application the installer will prompt you for the location of your license server. Enter either the IP address or DNS name of your server.

For existing clients, start EViews and then select Help->EViews registration (Note: this assumes the existing clients were previously using a concurrent use license).

Thanks. Appreciate the reply. That worked for a new install, however, for clients that used a standalone license previously, will they need to be re-installed?

For clients that used a standalone license previously, in the directory where EViews executable is located create the file lisource.txt. In the file put the following contents

Code: Select all

# EViews license source configuration file.
# each license server should be listed on a line below
# using the format 'server_address[:port][/license_group_name]'

127.0.0.1:25750/EViews7

In this example, both the license manager and EViews were installed on the same machine thus the 127.0.0.1 IP address. You may change the value here in the text file or you may start EViews in which case you will get an message similiar to 'Unable to obtain license from server ....' and the option to enter the new server information.

Also note, the example also assumes you are using EViews 7. If you are using EViews 6 then change the group to be EViews6.
