Panel Data Modelling

Postby Rui » Mon Jul 06, 2009 5:04 am

Hi all,

I am an honours student looking to model the effect of economic growth on poverty incidence. Specifically I would like to estimate the equation log Pit = θi + η log μit + εit, where P is poverty incidence and u is GDP per capita.

However because sufficiently long time series data on poverty is not generally available for individual developing countries I have had to undertake a cross country analysis and pool data. Thus I want to run a panel that is 'short and wide'.

Unfortunately a problem I have is that poverty figures are only available for different countries in different years - the years do not necessarily correspond. There seems to be many missing observations given the numerous cross sectional units I am looking at. Is there any way to still run panel?

Regards Rui
