EViews COM Automation - Checking Licensing Restrictions

Postby perrottg » Thu May 08, 2014 4:19 pm

Just thought I would check the following before starting development:

We are looking to develop a Windows service that uses EViews COM automation to automatically updated EViews datasets when new data arrives. The intent is to automate the manual process.

The documentation for the COM Automation has the following statement:
Web server access to EViews via COM is not allowed. When being run by other windows services or
being run remotely via Distributed COM, EViews will limit COM access to a single instance. Please
contact QMS to obtain authorization.

Firsty, do we need authorization to use EViews COM Automation to develop the Windows service outlined above and secondly are there any likely technical limitations in the COM automation that would prevent the above scenario from working?

I plan to do a quick proof-of-concept first but I would check first that this scenario is within the license agreement.

As long as you are not putting a multi-user front end or web client, you're fine.
