Reinstalling Eviews when a machine dies

Postby keithbchurch » Tue Dec 04, 2012 11:07 am

One of the machines that we had Eviews (seat licence) installed on has died.

Clearly we would like to transfer this licence to another machine.

We have not purchased an extended maintenance agreement and it is over a year since we bought the software.

Do I understand correctly that it is not possible to transfer a licence from one machine to another after 12 months if you have not bought this extended warranty?

Regards,

Keith

So for the record and so others can make informed decisions I got this reply:

"The seat license, under the volume license requires an annual renewal of the maintenance to continue support, including transferring a license."

So it's down to the purchaser to weight up the risks of needing to transfer the licence to another machine for whatever reason against the cost of the maintenance contract and the cost of purchasing another licence. It cannot be done without help from the vendor.

For clarity, I should update what I said above.

If you buy a site licence (for example a seat licence) you will not be able to move it to another machine after the initial warranty period unless you buy the extended warranty/maintenance agreement. However taking up that agreement will not only allow you to move machines but give you access to software updates as long as you are paying the annual fee.

If you buy a single use licence, my understanding is that it can be moved in the event of a machine dying without any external help. However you won't get the automatic upgrade to new versions.

So you pays your money and you takes your choice.
