Eviews help file may not appear correctly

Postby svilen » Fri Jun 03, 2011 2:20 am

I have the following error with our EV7 network edition:
Eviews has detected that it is running from a network folder (Path). The Eviews help file may not appear correctly due to Windows security restrictions.
To remove this restriction on the system, please re-run Eviews as administrator.
Proceed with help?

Could you advice us how to fix the issue, apart from running it as administrator.

And the other issue is EViews Excel Add In. When I try to use it Excel popups an error: "Provider cannot be found. It may not be properly installed."

Microsoft restricts the use of compiled HTML help files (CHM) such as our help file if it is running over a network or the internet. You have to explicitly tell Windows to allow the use of a particular network folder as a valid help file location before the contents can be read. EViews actually does this for you, but it needs Administrator rights (just one time) to make this change to your registry. Without this change, you'll have to copy the help file to your local machine, and launch it manually whenever you need it (instead of launching it from within EViews). If you'd like to manually make the registry change yourself, google "Viewing CHM Files Across The Network" or "ItssRestrictions" for more details on how to setup your registry properly.

Also, the Excel Add In we provided is just a simple Excel based macro that makes use of our new EViews OLEDB provider. Our OLEDB driver needs to be registered with Windows on your system before the Add In can work properly. Our installer normally does this, but EViews will periodically check to see this driver is registered and if it isn't, it will offer to do it for you. Again it needs Administrator rights to do this registration (just once). Run EViews with administrative rights, then type in the command REGCOMPONENTS in the EViews command window to display the Register Components dialog. Click yes to register everything. To do this yourself, without EViews, look for the file named "EViewsOleDbProvider.dll" in your Eviews folder, then register it using "regsvr32" by running the following DOS command:

Code: Select all

regsvr32 EViewsOleDbProvider.dll

We have the same error with EV8 network installation. The EViews Excel Add In popups an error:
Provider cannot be found. It may not be properly installed.

We tried with OLEDB driver registration but the error remains.
Could you help us with this issue?

(We are using Excel 2010 64bit.)

Make sure you have all of the pre-requisites for our Excel 2007 Add In installed. You can see a list of these on our web page here:

This did the trick!
Thanks Steve.
