Configuring Proxy Server EViews 7 / Win XP

I just installed EViews 7, however it does not seem able to connect to the internet. So now I am trying to configure my "Network proxy server" under the "General Options" of EViews 7, but I don't know what to enter into the Server, User, and Password fields. I am running Windows XP behind a corporate firewall. So far I have tried the following three approaches:
1) Clicked the "Auto detect from IE" button. Result is a "No proxy server was detected" message from EViews.
2) Looked for my proxy settings in IE 7 (Tools -> Internet Options -> Connections -> LAN Settings). "Automatically detect settings and "Use automatic configuration script" are both checked. "Proxy server" is not checked. I tried pasting the configuration script url into the Server field in EViews, which resulted in "Could not reach registration server" message when I click the "Test Internet Access" button.
3) Looked for my proxy settings in Firefox 3.6.10 (Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> Network -> Connection -> Settings). The "Use system proxy settings" button is selected, so that wasn't much help.

Can anyone help? Thanks.

Erik

Hi Eric:

EViews 7 can only detect a proxy that's been defined as a static proxy for IE. If IE is using the "Use automatic configuration script" option, then you're going to have to manually figure out what your proxy server is. The configuration script is usually just a text file that has one or more proxy servers defined based on what address you're trying to go to. If you open a browser window and type in the URL from the "Address" textbox for the configuration script, you should be able to see inside that script for information as to which proxy server to use -- if there are multiple proxy servers, you'll have to pick the default one for public external internet addresses.

If all else fails, you'll have to ask someone in your IT department what your proxy server setting is. Once you have it, you would type it into the proxy server textbox. It should look something like this:

servername:port number

(for example, myproxyserver:8080)

If there is a proxy username and password that you have to use, you'll have to put that information into EViews as well.

Thanks! I found a server in that file which seems to have worked.
