Given all the nifty new tools in EViews 7, would it be hard to write something internally which wrote a csv file, opened Excel, read it in, saved it as an xlsx file, and deleted the csv?
I know it sounds kludgy, and would require Excel 2007 being on the machine, but if it saved a lot of coding....

Re: XLSX files and EV7
Oh, is there a command on the menu to save data as a .csv file?
(A little puzzling on the help system hints at how to do it, but it ain't intuitive.)
But I can see the argument that csv has advantages.

Re: EViews 7 memory death
Opening the .chm file directly works fine. After I do that, opening it from EViews still causes a crash. Note that EViews crashes too, not just the help system.

Re: EViews 7 memory death
Very odd. Can you try a reboot and see if it is replicable? And were you opening the main page on the help or one of subtopics? You don't think I would report a bug like this until I had already rebooted once and repeated it, do you?* I chose "EViews Help Topics..." and then clicked on th...

EViews 7 flames out on Matlab
I am running Matlab 2009b.
Open EViews, open an existing workfile,
xopen(type=m, case=lower)
'Matlab opens and log window appears
xput age
'EViews has encountered a problem and needs to close.
EViews dies. Matlab is alive and has received the age variable.
I'm running XP.

EViews 7 memory death
I just opened EViews 7, opened help, clicked on the index tab, got a message "There is not enough memory for this task." and EViews died.
Before opening EViews, Task manager shows commit charge 1468/3923. After opening EViews, 1485/3923. After clicking on Help/EViews Help Topics 1649/3923.

Re: correctly applicating ARMA
Actually, the help system discusses forecasting at length. But the simple answer is that the forecast window has a field named "Forecast sample." Fill it in with whatever sample period you would like to forecast.

Re: Scatter plot labels
This got explained to me by a friend who I'll just call "DL." The trouble is I forget how to do it and he has to remind me periodically.
So if someone could remember all this when I next forget....

Re: Scatter plot labels
For individual labels, try this. Make an alpha series with the labels you want, leaving the other elements blank. Then under Lines & Symbols in the graph options dialog set Symbol/Obs label to Obs. Label. Then under Obs/Date Axis set "Optional alpha..." to the alpha series you created.

When you post a homework question, it's best to show what you've done so far so people can figure out how to give you a helpful hint.
