Re: Misleading calculations of Endogeneous variables in system
Dear Gareth, Thanks again. I have looked at it again. With your little exercise EViews worked well and as expected in my (old) workfile. So, I tied my own work in a newly created model in that workfile (rather than copying an existing one) and the error did not occur anymore. Everything is fine now....

Re: Misleading calculations of Endogeneous variables in system
Follow up: (1) I can confirm that the model in my workfile was corrupted (unknown reason but I have been working with the file for a while and copied models on and on). Setting up a new model and solving gave the expected results (as stated by Gareth). (2) However, this did ONLY work for models whic...

Re: Misleading calculations of Endogeneous variables in system
Dear Gareth, Thanks a lot again. I now agree - not only by your little example but by a slightly more complex one I set up and by looking into old work files of mine which showed the same behaviour. However, and I know how strange that may sound and that I may look quite silly - I am the more sure t...

Re: Misleading calculations of Endogeneous variables in system
Postscript Dear Gareth, I experimented again because I think it is really an important issue and it should be clear to everyone how EViews works at this point: EViews does not - in its default setting - show the true dependence of variables in a model, i.e. if one variabe depends on the estimate of ...

Re: Misleading calculations of Endogeneous variables in system
Dear Gareth, Thank you fror your reply. I thought so too and was very surprised and thus it took me a while to figure out how the program works. Maybe I do not understand something. My suspicion started when I looked at the MAPE which was usually smaller for the variable which depended also on the e...

Misleading calculations of Endogeneous variables in system
Using EViews 8.1 Working on a system with rational expectations (i.e. some endogeneous variables appear with a lead: x = c1 + c2y w = c4 + c5x(t+1) I find the calculation in a model in default setting at least misleading (the error of the first equation does not appear automatically in the second on...

Re: restricted estimation different from unrestricted?
Thanks a lot.
Learned a lot.
Some times one doesn't see the forest due to the trees (as we say in German).
Maybe EViews can take this up and make the Help more explicit on this point.
Best regards
Christian

Re: restricted estimation different from unrestricted?
Thanks again for answering. I was not aware of any starting values which I could alter. However, now I looked at them and set them to zero. No change in result, I still get different outputs depending on how the equation is stated. Also, I checked again with OLS and would still claim that the same p...

Re: restricted estimation different from unrestricted?
Well, I have to admit, that EViews produces the same results in case of OLS. However, for other estimation methods that's seems not to be the case (here especially 2SLS or GMM). And the differences are more material than just rounding errors. I have provided an examle, please see the attached files:...

Re: restricted estimation different from unrestricted?
Here I am again.
My other posts showing the same numberes done by OLS again burt stated as system:
so, am I doing something wrong - mistake - what is going on?
Thanks for replying!

Re: restricted estimation different from unrestricted?
Thanks for you reply. I thought it was odd too (EViews states explicitly in its help material, that "If there is no such restrictions, this method is identical to estimating each equation using single-equation ols." - see "System Estimation Methos OLS"). However, it yields differ...

restricted estimation different from unrestricted?
I found that Eviews (8) reports different results (coeficients etc.) depending on how the equation is stated, i.e: y c x error or y = c (1) + c (2)*x + error Why is that? Shouldn't it be the same ? [To me it matters because I want to state a restricted equation and compare it to the unrestricted one...

Re: 3sls / joint estimation: residuals
Thanks Gareth. Your presumtion is right. I have a joint determination of coefficients in the system. Well, it's unfortunate that Eviews does not allow something like this. Maybe in a future version?

3sls / joint estimation: residuals
Dear all, Is it possible in EViews (7) in a system to grab the residuals from one of the equations and use them in another (equation of that system)? (and how?) I have a rational expectaions model in which I want to use the one step ahead prediction errors of one equation (=its residuals from one pe...
