Optimize Constraints?
How can I add constraints to the optimize function? If I have a function and I want to use maximum likelihood to estimate two coefficients, how can I constrain the values of the coefficients so that it only estimates their values between certain ranges?

Re: Databases and Auto Updating Series
Whichever works. I just have a series in a workfile that I need to be populated in order to perform a match merge from a database into a workfile. In other words, I have UNITS in a workfile and a unique identifier called BUCKET. In the database, I have UNITS, but it's by ITEM. I want to create a ser...

Re: Databases and Auto Updating Series
Can I have a linked series in a database that gets populated using match merge from some other source?

Databases and Auto Updating Series
I currently have a workfile with three sheets. First, is the data at the lowest level (SKU/UPC/Items) - call this Sheet1. Next, is a "lookup list" that is used to populate an auto updating series in the Sheet1 that places each item into a broader group (Group A, Group B, etc). The third sh...

EViews Add-In to Excel - Get Data
I'm trying out the "Get Data" inside of excel to pull from an eviews file. For some reason I can't get it to sample from the data before it brings it in. Is this possible to do in the add-in? For example, if I have a dataset with a variable called states, can I say something to the effect ...

Thanks Startz, this is exactly what I was trying to do. Much appreciated.

Re: Panel or Pool?
Could you expound upon the process to use contraction? I've run across this same problem many times. Here's an example of what the data may look like... I'll have weekly population for all of the counties in all 50 states. However, I want to look at the population for the states over time. In excel,...

I can't, however if you'd like to do a Go to Meeting at some point so that you can see my screen we can set that up. Email me at elimoore@cmgconsulting.net

Re: EqTabs (Equation summaries)
Thanks. The SumTab would be preferred for what I do, but it seems to crash everytime I run it. Then again, it's on 370+ equations with 10-12 variables a piece. Could it be a memory issue?

Re: EqTabs (Equation summaries)
Hi Gareth,
Is there a way to add an option to show the dependent variable? I see the @coeff and @stderrs in the program but cannot figure out what the command is for showing the dependent variable.

Equation Changes within Object
It would be extremely helpful if when you opened the equation object you could somehow add and remove variables without having to select "PROC > SPECIFY/ESTIMATE." That way, you could quickly try different combinations of variables just be either typing the variable in some sort of field a...

Re: EqRefresh (re-estimate equations)
I recommend changing the character limit to 10,000 or so. One file has 377 equations to update which doesn't work with the 512. Also, it might be helpful to have a log file that spits out in case there are any errors, that way if you are refreshing say 1000 equations and it says there is a singular ...

Forcing Coefficients
I suggest adding an option/section to force coefficients to particular coefficients or within particular bounds based on a specified criteria. Currently, the only way I know to force a coefficient is to bring it to the other side of the equation.
